She Ruiping (Rugao Municipal Hospital of TCM, Jiangsu Province)
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Vol. 20, No. 6:332
180 cases of cervical headache were treated with acupuncture at 8 points of neck and occipital area.
And 169 cases treated by oral administration of analgesics were used as control group. Results
showed that the cured rate was 56.7% and the total effective rate was 91.1% at the end of the first
therapeutic course that contains 10 treatment sessions in the acupuncture group, which were
significantly superior to those of the control group (p<0.001). The cured rate was increased by 20% at
the end of the second course in the acupuncture group, and it did not change on the control group.
It is suggested that the therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment for headache caused by cervical
problems is better than the analgesic medicines.
