Clinical Observation on 40 Cases of Peripheral Facial Paralysis Treated with Wrist-Ankle
Acupuncture

Purpose: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Wrist-Ankle acupuncture treatment for peripheral
facial paralysis.

Method: Wrist-Ankle acupuncture was used for observation group (40 cases) and regular
acupuncture for the control group (30 cases). The patients in both groups were treated once per day.

Result: There was no significant difference between the observation group and the control group in
the therapeutic effect and the treated days (P>0.05), but there was a significant difference between
the two groups in the relation between the treated sessions and the therapeutic effect (P<0.005).

  • Completely cured: Facial expression and movement of facial muscles were back to normal
    without linger.
  • Significantly improvement: Facial expression and movement of facial muscles were mostly
    recovered. But there was some lingers.                                                                            
  • Some improvement: Facial expression and movement of facial muscles were better.
  • No effect: No significant change after 40 day treatment.

Conclusion: Wrist-Ankle acupuncture has advantages of less treatment sessions.
