Treating infertility with Traditional Chinese Medicine
IVF and Acupuncture
A German study of 160 women undergoing IVF found that the women who had acupuncture before and
after the embryo transfer had a significantly higher pregnancy rate - 42.5% compared to 26.3% of the
women who did not have acupuncture.
Another study by Cornell University, published in the December 2002 issue of Fertility and Sterility,
reported, " The peripheral impact of acupuncture in improving uterine artery blood flow and hence
endometrial thickness ..... provides encouraging data regarding its potential positive effect on
implantation." the study concluded, "Because acupuncture is nontoxic and relatively affordable, its
indications as an adjunct in assisted reproduction or as an alternative for women who are intolerant,
ineligible, or contraindicated for conventional hormone induction of ovulation deserves serious
research and exploration."
To our chief practitioners Dr. Sun and Dr. Zhen, fertility treatment is one of their specialties. In their 24
year's practice, they have been using acupuncture and herbal medicine to treat all defferent female
and male infertility in China, UK, US and Canada and seeing thousands patients getting pregnant
without or with assisted reproduction procedures. They are very knowledgeable and experienced TCM
and acupuncture practitioners in this field.
Currently, about half of our infertility patients use acupuncture in conjunction with IVF(in vitro
fertilization, where egg and sperm are united in a petridish and the growing embryos are transferred
into a woman's uterus.) or artificial insemination. Others use acupuncture and our herbal medicine
only. Among these using acupuncture and herbal medicine only, either they already tried IVF treatment
several times with no luck to get pregnant, then they turned to us as the last resort. Or they financially
can not afford IVF or simply they want to try these none invasion, no chemical, all natural therapies
before considering IUI or IVF. A small group of our patients in their late 30s or early 40s were turned
down for IVF by their fertility doctors, then they turned to a recipe of acupuncture and herbal medicine
as a alternative.

According to TCM, using hair-thin needles, acupuncturist
stimulate certain points along the pathways to clear any
blockages, restore blance and allow Qi to flow where it is
deficicet and away from areas where it's excessive, thus bring
the body systems and organs up to highest level of health.
Acupuncture can treat some cases of infertility by helping to
restore regular menstrual cycles, reduce stress and improve the
blood flow and the response of a woman's ovaries and uterus,
and improve the body's endocrine system to balance the
hormones., thus to increase their chance of getting pregnant.
